Why I made this

Bunnyhopping is one of my favorite and most useless hobbies. I started when I was 12, and over the years, I’ve somehow gotten pretty good at it.

It’s not supposed to be a serious competitive game. It’s mostly an excuse to combine programming with a completely unnecessary skill I’ve somehow been practicing for years.

What is bunnyhopping?

Bunnyhopping is a movement bug from Quake and Counter-Strike. Strafe in the air, turn your mouse into the strafe, and you accelerate past the engine's speed limit. It's pure skill and players kept it precisely so because it's hard to master.

Maps

bhop_brick [recommended] — Start here. Hop from platform to platform and get to the finish as fast as you can. You can play Autohop or Scroll.

kz_hub — A KZ course with tighter jumps, ledges, and ladders. Scroll only, so you time each jump yourself. Press T to return to your checkpoint, C or Ctrl to crouch, and hold W into a ladder to climb.

Each map has its own leaderboard, with separate Autohop and Scroll times on bhop_brick. The top 10 runs on each board keep their replays.

How to play

Bunnyhopping is hard. Getting your mouse turns and movement keys in sync takes practice, so don’t worry if you keep falling at first. Start slow and focus on landing a few jumps in a row.

Start with Autohop on bhop_brick. Use W to get moving and hold Space to jump. In the air, release W and hold A while turning left, or D while turning right. Keep hopping to the finish.

R to restart · Esc to release your mouse.

Autohop vs. Scroll

Autohop jumps for you every time you land, as long as you hold Space. It’s the easier mode, so you can focus on strafing.

Scroll makes you time each jump yourself with the scroll wheel. Jump too late and you lose speed.
